I don’t drink coffee at the moment because I am pregnant but I love Starbuck’s because of their delicious treats and signature drinks. In fact, I even collect Starbuck’s coffee mugs just so I can have the Starbucks experience at home without the cost.
I always purchase the Starbucks coffee mug with the city’s name of every city I visit providing I like the city!
This week I tried bringing these Starbucks brownie cake pops into my kitchen for the festive season. I wanted to serve them with our Christmas dinner and thought it would a perfect opportunity to compare the cost of homemade Starbucks Brownie Cake Pops vs the real store-bought variety.
The store-bought variety is a mix of chocolate cake combined with butter cream icing and candy cane pieces, dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with candy cane bits.
Most of the ingredients needed to make Starbucks Cake Pops can be found in your pantry. Amazingly, these cake pops where easy to make with just a little time you too can have these delicious Starbucks Cake Pop treats at home.
Not all people like peppermint so choosing chocolate covered cake pops over peppermint sounded like a sure thing, I can’t go wrong with chocolate because everyone that was coming for dinner loves chocolate. Some of the recipes I found suggested using white chocolate however for some strange reason I cannot melt white chocolate properly. I had a bag of the Hershey chocolate chips I picked up a couple weeks ago with my Shoppers Drug Mart Mega Redemption Optimum points in the pantry as well as the Cadbury Chocolate bars anyway.
Originally I had thought to use skewers, but I bought some lollipop sticks from the dollar store that had been sitting in the kitchen tools drawer. My plan was to make these brownie cake pops at some point.
Making the brownie mix was the easiest part. I made a brownie mix from The Happy Baker Cookbook (A daters guide to emotional baking). Erin Bolger provides some of the best recipes for anything sweet. I love this cookbook!
Starbucks Cake Pops Recipe:
To make the brownie ball, I cut the baked brownie into small squares and use my hands to shape the balls into something round-shaped. I then placed the lollipop sticks into the balls before placing them into the freezer so they become firm and not soft for approx. 2 hours.
I managed to make a total of 23 brownie cake pops with the brownie mix. Once the cake pops where cold it was time to melt the chocolate. Using a double boiler on the stove I melted the chocolate, string the chocolate. I then dipped each ball into the melted chocolate until each brownie ball was covered in chocolate. To finish them off, I sprinkled coconut flakes to make it look like snow flakes. You can be extremely creative here or just use crushed candy canes.

- I used 3/4 cup of cocoa = $1.82

1 Homemade Starbucks Chocolate Brownie Cake Pop = $0.48 each

- 2 cups of sugar
- 1 cup of butter
- 1-1/2 tsp vanilla
- 4 eggs slightly beaten
- 1-1/4 cups of all purpose flour
- 3/4 cup of cocoa
- Grease an 11×14-inch baking dish and preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a large bowl mix sugar, butter, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs, bean until smooth.
