Micki Sannar also talks about the variates of olives oil in depth and details of Olive oil. The glossy pictures are enticing and makes you want to try each and every recipe. Now that you can say YES to a healthy dessert. If you have a sweet tooth like I do – you will really appreciate the delicious healthy and heart smart baking cookbook.
Olive Oil is the main component in Mediterranean diet and is known for it’s beneficial health properties because of it’s high content of antioxidants and mono saturated fats – the good fat! Olive oil is pressed from olives and comes in various varieties depending on the amount of times it has been processed. Extra Virgin olive oil is the least processed and is the best and purest form. Followed by Virgin, which is pressed twice. Pure olive oil has undergone processing and has been refined and filtered. The other variety you find in the grocery store is the extra light Olive oil which undergoes a considerate amount of processing so it only retains a mild flavour.
With so many delicious looking recipes it was hard to pick which one to try so I tried and tested two of my favorite forms or desserts to start. Chocolate cake and Cinnamon Twisties.
The Cinnamon Twisties are extremely easy to make and an old time favorite. I made approx. 25 small twisties, they disappeared within 24hrs of me baking them… I think they were pretty tasty.
No doubt I had to try the chocolate cake. “Good ‘Ole Texas Sheet Cake. With this recipe I used 3/4 of olive oil. The cake was creamy and smooth but not too rich. I added in my touch with some cocoa nibs and walnuts I had floating around however left out the Chocolate frosting.
