1 Whole Pork Leg, 45 meals, Under $23 bucks

Looking for ways to stretch your dollars in the kitchen? As much as we love couponing it’s not always possible primarily when it comes to meat.  So, what about turning your freezer into an extension of your pantry?

pork leg

Meat is one of the most expensive items we buy at the grocery store. It is also the main focus of the majority of our meals. By going back to the basics and learning a few skills we can find ways to save and opt for a more frugal meal.

I have no skill nor do I know how to butcher a whole leg of pork but heck, I decided to give it a try. In saying that, you will never learn unless you try it out. Within 30 minutes the whole leg was cut up into roasts, pork cutlets and pork stew. Both my husband and I took turns cutting up the leg, with a few laughs in between we were proud to say we managed to create 45 servings approx, with $22 and 30 minutes of work.

These cuts included 6 medium size pork roasts (6-8 servings each), 2 bags of cutlets (4-5 servings each) and 1 bag fill with pork pieces for stews (6-8 servings each).
