If there is one thing I’ve learned being married to an Italian man is never – I say never order pasta at an Italian restaurant!
As odd as that might sound because Italians make the best pasta, Italian food has so much better things to offer than pasta when you are paying $10 plus for an entree. Get your moneys worth and order the veal or rabbit unless of course you are a vegan. Leave the pasta and pizza making to the mother in law!
I love pasta for some many reasons, it’s quick, easy and cheap to make. You can add all sorts of different foods to give it a different flavour, it can be dressed up and serviced as a fancy dinner entree or down when there is not enough time in the day.
Recently I been using the Barilla whole grain pasta that has just been launched with 51% whole wheat. The Barilla brand was established in 1877 as a bread and pasta shop by Pietro Barilla in Parma, Italy. Now the company produces high quality pasta and pasta sauces and is still held by a fourth generation family over the last 130 years. As I usually say anything that has been around this long has to be great!
Here is one of the recipes I made one day within 20 minutes.
In a medium pot bring water to a boil and place Barilla pasta in to the boiling water. Boil for 9 minutes until al dente. Drain water and place into a large bowl. In the meantime place garlic and olive oil in fry pan for 2-3 minutes. Add in broccoli, asparagus and cook for 4 minutes until soft.
To make the sauce melt butter in sauce pan and stir in flour and stir until smooth and creamy. Add in mozzarella cheese and let melt for 2 minutes.
Place all the ingredients in the large bowel and mix together. Serve on plate and top with chopped tomato and grated Parmesan cheese. Serve warm or cold.
