When it comes to cooking a steak I am rather unforgiving, I love a steak prepared to savour the flavour and tenderness of the particular cut of steak.

When preparing a cut of steak they fall into these three categories.
1. Grilled
2. Marinated and
3. Simmered to ensure to get the most of the cut of beef .
Each and every week there will be a different cut of beef on sale and you will certainly save money on these various cuts of steaks if you know these three cooking styles.
Although a fillet mignon steak with peppers sauce might be divine let me introduce to you a slow cooked or otherwise known as simmered steak with a red wine sauce over roasted season veggies.
Simmered steaks are similar to pot roasts where it is cooked slowly in liquid to ensure a quality tenderness. This method is more popular in the cooler months adding in vegetables and liquid broth to cover the meat and simmer in the oven or on the stove for optimum tenderness. This is perfect for cheaper cuts such as flank steaks or boneless round cut from the hip. Not only are these cuts leaner, they also offer the main ingredient for shredded beef tacos or a delicious corned beef style steak with a spicy mustard sauce.
Grilled steaks are popular in the summer time for the BBQ. Summer is also the best time of the year to stockpile the freezer with grilling steak because these cuts will go on sale this time of the year. They can be prepared without any extra prep work just salt and pepper which will also save you time too. These cuts are best bought in bulk for further savings. Such cuts that are best grilled are fillet mignon, T’bone, porterhouse, and sirloin steak.
One of the best methods to save money on steaks is knowing how to marinate steaks. Marinated steaks help tenderize the cut and allows for delicious flavoured steaks. An example is the cube steaks that can be marinated for the popular Italian style Milanese or the cube steak rollups stuffed with cream cheese and bacon.
Steaks that marinate well and are versatile are the flank and skirt steaks. They are used in stir fry dishes or dishes that require thin sliced meat.
Knowing these three methods of preparing steaks. 1. Grilled, 2. Marinated and 3. Simmered will get the most of the cut of beef allowing you to pick the weekly meat sales yet serving up delicious steaks the family will love.
