This weekend our shopping trip didn’t include coupons yet I still managed to get $500 worth of of FREE product! As many of you know Shoppers Drug Mart had their Mega Redemption Weekend promotion, where we redeemed our Optimum points!
I was surprised how hard it was to spend $500 that was not planned. Since Christmas not too far away and we are expecting in 4 months, the extra $500 did come in handy for the unplanned shopping.
We cashed 95,000 Optimum points which generally would be $170 (note that I say $160 in the video however it is indeed $170) with the Mega Redemption this weekend end at Shoppers Drug Mart we received $250 instead of the $170 that we would generally get. We did two transaction 2 x $250 = $500 of FREE product. The cashier also made a few mistakes that I pointed out after analyzing the receipt and wondering why I had calculated a few things incorrectly. It was the cashiers mistake so he kindly reimbursed those products straight onto my credit card! Bingo more cash… I love the Scanning code of practice.
Watch a quick clip of my shopping trip and where the cashier went wrong.

I just found your website a week or so ago and have been learning a lot from your YouTube videos and website. Thanks so much for doing them and giving the product/price breakdowns after so we can learn from that too. Just curious–why did you do 2 transactions of $250/each at the Shoppers Drug point redemption recently? Did it have something to do with how many coupons you used? What was the rationale/benefit of breaking it into 2 transactions? I’d appreciate your help in understanding this. Thanks so much!
Leona,
Thanks for your comments.
We had to break it into 2 transactions because you are limited to redeeming only a certain number of points per day.
It gave us a better return by using 2 transactions on the Optimum points.
Thanks!
Thanks for the quick reply Steven. I didn’t realize the limit on daily point redemptions (good to know!). I’m assuming that if you got $500 of free product then you and Lina did 2 redemptions of 95,000 points each (meaning you each redeemed 95,000 points for a total of 190,000 points– likely 95,000 each on 2 different cards) because the bonus event was $250 off for a 95,000 point redemption. I’m just checking to make sure I understand what you did because I’m due for a “big” redemption likely the next time they have a bonus event. Thanks again for all you and Lina are sharing.
Leona,
No problem. This was our first MEGA redemption so it was a little challenging (trying not to overspend and still get everything we need for the baby).
You are correct with the 2 redemptions (most problem we had was navigating 3 carts for our shopping!
Thanks.
Steven
