If you love All Bran, you will love this product…If you have never tried it, here is a reason to give it a shot.

My family uses snack products a lot. For work, play, school, and on the go all year round. Finding nutritious snacks can sometimes be challenging, especially when shopping with my children and all the very sweet “candy” like treats are at their eye level.

We have recently tried the New All Bran Orange Cranberry Bars, and all I have to say is WOW! Everyone (including my 5 yr old & 8 yr old) loved them!

They are bursting with flavor. The fresh, zesty orange taste is very pleasing, then followed by hints of real cranberry. It’s the perfect size snack for everyone. Would love to see this product sold as All Bran “pieces” as well as the Bar. The Bar is thin, and tended to break easily if not packed carefully.

These bars are loaded with goodness. At 130 calories & 9 grams of sugar per bar, these treats will be a must have in my pantry from now on.

Fibre Facts

Fibre can be found in two forms: soluble and insoluble. Both function very differently in the body, and both are needed as part of a healthy diet. Wheat bran, an insoluble fibre, is highly effective in promoting regularity. According to Health Canadawheat bran fibre is the “gold standard” for promoting regularity. Natural wheat bran is the primary source of fibre in Kellogg’s All-Bran.

Cost

A box of All Bran Orange Cranberry Bars will typically retail for around $4.00/box, and I have seen sales advertised recently 2/$6. Combining coupons & sales on these fabulous treats you can pay as little as $2.00 per box! $1.00 coupons are currently found directly on the box that expire August 31, 2012.

All Bran Cranberry Apple Muffin Recipe

I wanted to try making baked goods with All Bran Cereal. I took this recipe & substituted the cranberries & apples for 3/4 cup frozen chopped berries (raspberries, blackberries & blueberries). It was so delicious! I highly recommend giving this recipe a try. Will be polishing off my box of All Bran Original Cereal and making more muffins & treats for my freezer!

1 1/2 cups          All-Bran Original* cereal

1 cup                 milk (1%)

1 cup                 all-purpose flour

1/2 cup              lightly packed brown sugar

4 tsp                  baking powder

1 tsp                  ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp               each, ground nutmeg and salt

2                        eggs

1/4 cup              canola oil

3/4 cup              chopped, frozen cranberries (do not thaw)

3/4 cup              diced McIntosh apple   (not peeled – 1/4”/6mm dice)

 Make It!

COMBINE cereal and milk in a medium bowl.  Let stand for 2 minutes or until cereal softens.

COMBINE flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in large bowl. Set aside.

ADD eggs and canola oil to cereal mixture; beat well.  Add liquid mixture to dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.  Fold in cranberries and apple.  Portion batter evenly into 12 (2 1/2”/6.5 cm) non-stick muffin pan cups, lightly coated with cooking spray.

BAKE in 400°F (200°C) oven for 20 minutes or until tops spring back when lightly touched.

Tip:  We like the sweetness of McIntosh apples to balance the tanginess of the cranberries in these muffins. If you prefer a more tart combination, choose an apple variety such as Empire or Spy.
