A Canadian Shopper’s Guide to Extended Holiday Returns for Christmas 2012

Well, Christmas shopping season is picking up and I wanted to share the Canadian Christmas and Holiday returns cheatsheet for your favourite retailers. Some have an extended return season and others charge a restocking fee so read carefully. It is important to understand before purchasing a gift that not all gifts are returnable to the retailer and the gift receiver could be stuck with a gift they cannot return.

Home Depot

If you’ve got a receipt, the company will refund or exchange the item within 90 days. Cancellations may also be subject to a 15% restocking fee. Major appliances are non-returnable. Items should be inspected thoroughly at the time of delivery. If you are not satisfied, refuse the item before signing the delivery receipt. Be sure to report any product defects or damages with the delivery agent. Damages must be reported within 48 hours of delivery. After 48 hours, you may visit your local store or call 1-800-455-3869 for assistance.

Michaels

To return or exchange an item, customer is required to present a valid photo ID (see Identification section for list of valid Photo ID's) that will be recorded at the time of the return. Information from customer ID will be retained in a company-wide database of customer return activity that Michaels and its affiliates use to authorize returns. For return of online purchases, refer to Online Purchases section. Michaels reserves the right to limit returns or exchanges regardless of receipt.
RETURNS WITH A RECEIPT
All returns and exchanges must be new, unused, and in original packaging, along with a valid receipt that is no more than 60 days old. Refunds will be offered in the original method of payment. Gift cards and prepaid cards are not returnable or exchangeable. A Store Return Card will be given as the return tender for all returns made using a gift receipt. Returns, if purchased with a check, require a 10-day waiting period from the date of purchase.
RETURNS WITHOUT A RECEIPT
Refunds will be given at the item's lowest price sold within the last 90 days. Refunds will be in the form of a Store Return Card and/or merchandise exchange. Returns of seasonal and clearance merchandise will not be accepted without a receipt. Handcrafted Custom Floral Arrangements will not be accepted without a receipt.
TECHNOLOGY ITEMS
Technology items (including but not limited to Yudu and Cricut Products) are returnable if the packaging is unopened and in new condition. If opened or without a receipt, technology items are not refundable or exchangeable. Damaged or defective technology items returned during the warranty period are covered by the manufacturer's warranty terms and conditions and must be returned directly to the manufacturer for exchange.
SPECIALTY ITEMS
CUSTOM FRAMING – If for any reason you are not satisfied with your Custom Framing order, please return to the same store location to have the order reworked. Custom components are ordered on a daily basis, limiting the stores ability to cancel. Your satisfaction is our ultimate goal.
CUSTOM FLORAL – If for any reason you are not satisfied with your Custom Floral Arrangement, please return to the same store location to have the order reworked. Michaels will gladly rework any arrangement within a 7-day period. Custom Floral Arrangements are not refundable. Your satisfaction is our ultimate goal
Class fees will be refunded for the purchase price only prior to the beginning of the class. Class fees are not refundable after the class begins.
With a valid receipt, books are refundable within 14-day period; magazines are returnable within 24 hours.

Mattresses
At Sears we recognize the importance of a good night's sleep. To help you accomplish this we recommend you take a minimum of 30 nights as an adjustment period for your body to get used to the comfort and support of your new sleep set. If after 30 nights and within 365 nights of your delivery you feel that your bed is not as comfortable as you expected, and if you purchased a new mattress pad or mattress protector from Sears at the same time. Let us know and we will be happy to arrange ONE selection exchange for you.
Subsequent exchanges will not be permitted
Crib and floor model mattresses cannot be returned (final sale)
Free cancellation prior to the day of scheduled delivery

The Bay return policy

Your original receipt must accompany your returned items(s) to process your refund. All returned items must be in their original state, with all tickets attached and deemed by the Bay to be unworn/undamaged before they can be accepted for a refund.
Merchandise can be returned up to
* 90 days if purchased with an HBC Credit Card or HBC MasterCard.
* 60 days for furniture, mattresses, major appliances and Patio Furniture.
* 30 days for Home Electronics and Jewellery.
Refunds, returns or exchanges will not be made on Gift Boxes.
Returns may be subject to a restocking fee or disposal fee for mattresses.
Merchandise can be returned/exchanged up to 30 days if purchased with any other tender type, and the refund amount will be applied to the original tender.
After 30 days, and up to a period of 60 days, the refund amount will be applied to an HBC Gift Card.
Merchandise returned/exchanged without a receipt, will be refunded to an HBC Gift Card at the lowest sale price. For audit purposes, we ask that you provide us with your name, address and telephone number. Valid photo ID may be required.
Items purchased online can be returned to any Bay store or shipped back to our warehouse. Shipping fees apply to items returned by mail unless the item was damaged or broken, or the wrong item was sent.
Price adjustments will be made with the original receipt, within 7 days of purchase.
Price adjustments will not be made for clearance merchandise.
